Professional Counselor

We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic, multitasker to join our team. The ideal candidate is ambitious and has a passion for helping others. We have an immediate opening for a self-motivated individual to be the next rock star on our Sexual Assault Victims Care Unit. Under the supervision of the Director of the Sexual Assault, the Professional Counselor’s primary purpose is to provide counseling to all survivors of sexual assault from children to seniors, as well as to the victim’s significant other. The Professional Counselor will provide confidentiality, complete client records, as well as generate appropriate reports and compile statistics. The Counselor will offer support and resources to survivors of sexual assault while advocating to end sexual assault and abuse within our community. The Sexual Assault Victims Care Unit is an Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) member Rape Crisis Center serving Madison, St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph Counties.

Duties
• Provide long and short term individual counseling to child and adult survivors and their significant others
• Furnish group counseling to survivors and/or significant others when appropriate
• Maintain case notes and all case file requirements on each client
• Provide case management and case coordinate with DCFS and other agencies when needed
• Attend case staffing when required
• Develop and maintain outreach to children and adolescents by contacting and coordinating with schools
• Provide counseling in schools when necessary
• Attend ICASA meetings and training when requested
• Participate in staff meetings and staff development
• Provide advocacy for survivors and significant others when appropriate
• Assist in training and in-service training of Volunteer Advocates
• Provide information and referrals as requested
• Develop and maintain a working relationship with DCFS caseworkers
• Provide on-call advocacy on a rotational basis
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of theories, principles, and practice related to Sexual Assault, Rape Trauma Syndrome, report writing; crisis intervention; and ethical issues in the practice of counseling
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all clients and understand the Confidentiality Act as it pertains to rape crisis workers
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Compile information to aid consumers in carrying out treatment objectives
• Ability to relate well to and address the needs of a diverse group of people, including consumers, staff, and the public

Qualifications
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree in counseling, guidance, psychology, social work or related field is required
• A minimum of one year of clinical experience providing counseling to individuals with sexual assault is preferred
• Two years’ experience providing counseling to children and adolescents is preferred
• Counseling/Social Work Licensure is preferred (or achieves licensure in one year from date of hire)
• Experience in the delivery of group services and working with a multidisciplinary team is strongly preferred
