Community Preventionist


We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic, multitasker to join our team. The ideal candidate is ambitious and has a passion for educating others. The Community Preventionist helps build safe, just communities through prevention education that works to change cultural norms, end oppression and promote equality. We have an immediate opening for a self-motivated individual to be our next rock star on our Sexual Assault Victim Care Unit. Under the supervision of the Director of the Sexual Assault Victims Care Unit, the Community Preventionist assumes responsibility for all prevention efforts. The Sexual Assault Victims Care Unit is an Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault member Rape Crisis Center serving Madison, St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph Counties.

• Responsible for coordinating and following through on all department director’s requests
• Responsible for coordinating community prevention efforts in a variety of settings
• Provide public education that utilizes age-appropriate, evidence-based curriculum to change cultural norms end oppression and promote equality
• Complete all required program documentation and submit it weekly
• Meet monthly goals for direct service
• Clean the office as needed as well as the rooms of discharged residents
• Maintain and abide by the policies and procedures of the Sexual Assault Victims Care Unit and the agency
• Report all findings of abuse/neglect to the immediate supervisor as a mandated reporter and make required reports per ANCRA
• Provide rotational on-call crisis advocacy services as necessary

• A background in education, public communication, or public health is a plus
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and insurance
• Be willing to travel throughout the state of Illinois and to St. Louis County, MO to provide prevention services
• Be willing to travel out of town for training as necessary
• Must be able to manage a flexible schedule
• Clean criminal history and background
• Provide empowering support and guidance
• Have the ability to intervene appropriately in a crisis situation
• Must maintain total confidentiality at all times
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population
• The ability network build and grow solid professional relationships
• Possess the ability to speak in a variety of public settings to large and small crowds
• The ability to deliver a variety of curriculum in different settings
• Obtain a health physical and TB test
• Have the ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 30 lbs
• Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times
